Carol Trakimas, D.O.

Dr. Carol A. Trakimas is a board certified Dermatologist who, in addition to her doctorate in medicine, holds Bachelor and Master degrees in science. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, her Master of Science degree in Biochemistry and Immunology from the State University of New York at Buffalo, her medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed her internship and specialty residency training at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Subsequently, Dr. Trakimas was a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army and provided medical and dermatology care to our troops and their families. Dr. Trakimas is a Diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology, a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, and member of the North Carolina Dermatology Association and other medical societies.

Dr. Trakimas has twenty years of experience as a Dermatologist and has expertise in the evaluation and treatment of both common and unusual or complicated disorders of the skin, hair, and nails. During her military career, she was Chief of Dermatology at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. Subsequently, she has been in private practice providing general medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology services to patients in North Carolina. Dr. Trakimas is a skilled Dermatologic surgeon and is highly regarded in the area of Dermatologic Rejuvenation / Cosmetic Dermatology. She is especially known to be a very knowledgeable, meticulous, and compassionate Dermatologist.

Tarsha Rivens, PA-C
Physician Assistant

Tarsha Rivens

Tarsha Rivens is a Certified Physician’s Assistant with 6 years of experience in Dermatology. She received her bachelor's degree in pre-medicine from Saint Augustine's College in Raleigh, NC and a master's degree in Physician's Assistant Studies from East Carolina University. She is certified by the National Commission of Physician Assistants, is a member of the North Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants and the American Academy of Physician Assistants.

Tarsha entered into healthcare because of a desire to help people. Her passion is to provide compassionate, thoughtful, and in-depth dermatology evaluations to patients suffering from a wide variety of skin maladies. She is particularly skilled at treating acne, eczema, scalp issues and enjoys the challenge of addressing hair loss. Tarsha values interacting with patients, hearing their story, and enlightening them on the skin’s many functions. She also enjoys hiking on vacations, reading, exploring new places, new adventures of all types, and serving in church.

Michelle Appling

Michelle Appling has over 20 years experience in healthcare, leads our executive, administrative, and support teams and is responsible for the total operational oversight of The Dermatology Center of Raleigh. As a robust professional in healthcare, Michelle is responsible for all financial, employment management, credentialing, contract negotiations and all daily functions of the practice. As such, prior to joining The Dermatology Center of Raleigh, Michelle has been a Practice Administrator in OBGYN, Pain Management and Internal Medicine. Under Michelle's leadership, The Dermatology Center of Raleigh will continued its practice transformation to set new and even higher standards within the field of Dermatology.

Genet Rucker
Executive Office Administrator

Genet Rucker

Genet Rucker, our Executive Office Administrator, has over 8 years administrative experience in a healthcare setting. With skilled expertise in medical billing, insurance, and a comprehensive knowledge of both cosmetic procedures and products, Genet leads our Front-of-House Staff and ensures the operational excellence of our patient-facing office functions, including reception, booking, insurance, billing, check out, and retail. Genet received her degree in Business Administration from Fayetteville State University and served as a financial counselor and front desk receptionist for several well-known medical clinics in the greater Raleigh-Durham area prior to joining The Dermatology Center of Raleigh.

Lead Medical Assistant

Sharrese Cooper

Sharrese Cooper, our Lead Medical Assistant is both an experienced M.A. and an essential group leader, assisting our team of Medical Assistants in the completion of their essential clinical support duties. Sharrese’s compassionate, detailed, and thorough approach to patient care are valued skills in the fulfillment of responsibilities such as recording medical histories, assisting in biopsies, addressing patient questions and concerns, and supporting our team of Providers throughout examinations and procedures. Sharrese received her Associates Degree of Applied Science in Medical Assisting from Miller-Motte College in Raleigh, and she worked as a successful beauty advisor in a major retail outlet prior to joining The Dermatology Center of Raleigh.

Medical Receptionist

Desiree Urena

Desiree, our Medical Receptionist, is an experienced front-of-house administrator whose area of expertise lies in organizing patient check-in and coordinating patient flow at our front desk. Desiree received her Bachelors Degree in Sociology from Meredith College in Raleigh and worked as the Front Desk Receptionist at Hand and Stone Massage and Facial Spa prior to joining The Dermatology Center of Raleigh.

April Jordan

April is a certified Medical Assistant. She graduated from the Medical Arts School in Raleigh, NC. April enjoys helping patients within our medical, surgical, and aesthetic dermatology practice. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and cooking.
